Remember, when buying a home in British Columbia, the total purchase amount will be more than the actual price of the home. You must add the Property Transfer Tax, legal expenses and any additional mortgage costs. Property Transfer Tax in B.C. is 1% of the sale price up to $200,000 and an additional 2% for the sale price over $200,000.
The bottom line is, don't spend all your cash dollars on the price of your home. Include at least two thousand extra dollars to cover the additional costs. The additional costs will vary; I will help you figure out exactly how much money you will need.
